Andhra Pradesh chapter of Students Islamic Organisation of India staged a Dharna on 9th May 2013 in front of AP Secretariat to press for proper utilization of minority funds and the execution of AP Minority Commissionerate as the sole authority. Police detained SIO’s activists from the dharna site forcefully though SIO was committed for a peaceful protest. Activists were detained at Nampally police station and later were released at 5pm.

Br. Abrar Ali, State PR Sec condemned the forceful detention of SIO’s activists, not allowing them to execute democratic right of protest. A memorandum was presented to the concerned official for pressing the demand of giving a complete organizational structure to the Minority Commissionerate and the proper utilization of minority funds. SIO also raised concerns over 90% of the sanctioned posts at the commissionerate being vacant and no proper set up yet established for the same.
