New Delhi: The sickening and increasing instances of rape and violence against women are deplorable and shameful to say the very least. The recent instances in Telangana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh and Jharkhand (those that have been reported so far) make us question the direction which the society is going, Labeed Shafi, President SIO said

We are deeply anguished and extend our condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families. These shameful instances are reflective of the society and the mindset that it engenders. The social perception and behavior towards women creates these monsters. Everytime such instances take place, the whole society is responsible for these crimes, Shafi said.

The ever shrinking relevance of ethics and morality in society is also largely responsible for conditioning people negatively against these horrifying and brutal atrocities. The cavalier attitude of the government in ensuring security of women and maintaining law and order is highly condemnable and disgusting.

Instead of mere condemnation every time such crimes happens, we should take proactive steps in changing social mindset to ensure such crimes never take place. We demand immediate action against the perpetrators, swift justice along with proper rehabilitation and care for the victims, Shafi added.
