New Delhi: SIO condemns the targeted arrest of Moulana Tahir Madni (General Secretary, Rashtriya Ulema Council) & demanded his and others immediate release. It should be recalled that continuous sit-in protest was started by various women against discriminatory CAA-NRC-NPR in Azamgarh on 4th Feb however in the early hours of 5th Feb around 3:00am, police started use of brute force in the form of lathi charge, firing teargas shell & rubber palates on protestors including women who were busy in offering prayers. This police violence led to serious injuries to many protestors including the women who has been in Intensive Care Unit till recently.

When many prominent citizens including Moulana Tahir Madni reached the spot to take stock of situation, many of them including Moulana Tahir Madni were arrested by local police and many severe charges were booked against them. Around 135 people were also booked under various sections of IPC and around 20 got arrested which is clear indication that they are trying to subjugate these peaceful protests through fear and intimidation, but the people are & will respond with resolve and determination.
