SIO demands total Prohibition in Tamil Nadu : The Hindu

The members of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) formed a human chain at Chinthamani in the city on Saturday urging for total Prohibition in the State and to create awareness among the common people, particularly the youths on the ill-effects of consuming liquor.

Apart from the members of the SIO, school and college students, representatives of various organisations too participated in the human chain agitation.

Syed Abuthahir, SIO State president who led the human chain, lashed out at the government for spoiling the future of the younger generation by opening liquor shops.

Close all liquor shops
He said that liquor was spoiling the future of society and demanded the closure of all liquor shops immediately.

He urged all sections of society to join together and raise their voice against the liquor menace.

M. Shail Mohideen, president of Tiruchi district unit of the SIO, spoke.

Later they staged a demonstration near the Anna statue.
