Protests at different cities in South Maharashtra

As a part of Call from SIO of India for Nationwide Protests Gatherings, Protests were organised at Kurla, Bandra, Mira Road, Parli, Kolhapur along with JIH and other organisations to raise the voice over the #Kathua and #Unnao rape incidents and the appalling complicity of the government and police force in these cases.

The protests saw men and women belonging to all religious and political hues put down their signatures and messages as a symbolic gesture of their collective anguish. They have all been unanimous in demanding severe and exemplary punishment to the convicts of these inhuman crimes at the earliest and raised the slogans “#JusticeForAsifa” and #JusticeForUnnao” throughout the Protests.

It should be known that the abduction, brutalization, multiple rape and finally murder of the eight-year-old girl was an act of communal or ethnic ‘cleansing’. It was done with an intent to rid Kathua of the presence of the Muslim Bakarwal community. This fact should not be blurred. She was not raped and killed because she was a child. The fact of the rape is important but more important than that is the politics behind this rape and murder.

In other parts of the State too, cadres of SIO joined the protests in large numbers.
