A one day program on “Maryam Jameelah..life and thoughts” by Students Islamic Organisation Of India (SIO) Delhi zone was conducted at Markaz Jamaat-e-Islami Hind New Delhi on December 25, 2012. The objective of conducting this program is to highlight the life and contributions of this personality towards Islam so that her life could be set as an example for the younger generation said Md. Anis-ur-Rahman Nadvi Zonal President SIO Delhi zone in his inaugural speech.
“Maryam Jameela should be counted as among those rare personalities who not only followed the religion – Islam – in letter and spirit but also advocated for the religion throughout their life” said Dr. Waquar Anwar financial adviser Jamate-e-Islami Hind .
Maryam Jameela, who died on October 31 this year at the age of 78 – her life and writings both were a critic of the western civilization which claims that Muslim women cannot perform her duties while following the Islamic etiquette; opined Ms. Najmus Sahar – research scholar at Jamia Hamdard.
Khan Yasir, CAC member SIO-India and research scholar at DU, while addressing the gathering pointed out that Maryam Jameela’s criticism of the western civilization on one hand and modernist Islamic scholars on the other hand was a constructive criticism for whenever she criticized someone’s idea she also provided with an alternative.
Mohd Azaharuddin, National President SIO-India, concluded the program and emphasized her quest for truth and her distinctive intellectual contribution she offered in the field of Islam.
