SIO and GIO protest against Rape in Manipal

SIO and GIO protest against Rape in Manipal Udupi chapter of Students Islamic Organization of India and Girls Islamic Organization of India staged a protest in front of K.M.C Manipal on Saturday against the gang rape and assault of a 22-year old Manipal University medical student. Besides condemning the incident, the students demanded that investigation into the matter be started at a swift pace and those guilty be punished at the earliest. An unbiased probe must be conducted and measures must be taken to see that no such incident occurs in the future, the protestors demanded. The protestors gathered in front of the Tahshildar’s office and continued shouting slogans. These protests were followed by demonstrations by Girls’ Islamic Organisation of India, Udupi Dist. Navida Husain Assadi, Convenor of GIO said that growing obscenity, drug abuse, alcoholism and other social evils are a contributing factor for the occurrence of such incidents and hence attempts must be made to check them. She added that people are drifting away from spirituality and lack of fear of God makes man behave worse than animals. “Fear of God is the only way to control such incidents”, she said. A memorandum was submitted to the District Superintendent of Police putting forward SIO and GIO's demands.
