SIO welcomes the step of UGC on NET Exam

New Delhi: UGC reinstated Biannual NET Exam & also increased the age limit by two years, earlier SIO had demanded the interference of UGC to direct the CBSE to waive the practice of conducting the examination singularly in a year. The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has filed a petition in the High Court of Delhi asking CBSE to take back its decision to suspend the tests and the honorable High Court has issued a notice to Central Government, wherein the UGC & CBSE failed to file counter affidavit. SIO had also appealed the government to conduct one more session in 2017 for students who are crossing the age limit. Now The Board has increased the upper age limit for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) aspirants by two years.

SIO’s Struggle for Biannual NET Exam

June 2017 – SIO reminded MHRD to conduct the NET July 2017 session when UGC cancelled and gave notification for November 2017 session.

July 2017 – SIO filed petition in Supreme Court on suspension of UGC NET examination.

August 2017 – SC transferred the case to Delhi High Court

October 2017 – Delhi High court issues notice to centre on suspension of UGC NET

November 2017 – SIO demands interference of UGC to direct the CBSE to waive the practice of conducting the examination singularly in a year and protested at UGC headquarters.

January 2018 – UGC issued notification and extended the age limit, before the scheduled date of hearing (25th Jan 2018) and centre didn’t file counter affidavit even after Delhi High court’s notice in October 2017.
