The disappearance of Mr. Mugilan, an environmental activist, is deeply disturbing, Labeed Shafi, National President, SIO of India said.

The facts surrounding the disappearance of Mr. Mugilan, in which he disappeared half a day after releasing damning evidence implicating complicity of state apparatus in firing and killing of protesters against Sterlite Industries in Thootukudi is insidious and revealing.

Expressing his anguish and solidarity, Labeed Shafi demanded immediate action to trace Mr. Mugilan and ensure his safety.

It must be recalled that Mr. Mugilan is one of the foremost and proactive environmentalist of Tamil Nadu and he has previously taken on sand mining mafia, Kundankoolam nuclear plant, hydrocarbon and methane mining in Tamil Nadu’s agricultural Cauvery delta region, among his many other activities relating to environmental degradation.
