Kadamtala Violence: Tripura Government must restore law and order

by | Oct 9, 2024

The recent communal violence in Kadamtala, Tripura, seems to mirror the pattern of Hindutwa violence across the country, with mobilized cadres and outsiders targeting and unleashing violence against minority communities. The targeted nature of this violence is especially evident in the way that religious sites of Muslims, including a mosque and graveyard have been attacked and set on fire. Residents of Kadamtala and Tripura have lived in peace for decades, maintaining harmony between communities until this planned violence occurred.

We strongly condemn the state government for its failure to control the situation, and for appearing to side with the perpetrators instead of working for justice. People are in a state of fear and concern due to the inadequate measures taken by the administration. The government must restore law and order at all costs and take action against the real culprits rather than blindly arresting individuals.
