The West Bengal chapter of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) held a rally followed by a demonstration against the violent agitation at Harimohon Ghosh College and the subsequent murder of a police officer named Tapas Chowdhury. Calling it unfortunate, Md. Mosiur Rahaman, State President of SIO said that campus atmosphere often becomes violent during student union elections. Kolkata, Dec 9: Violence in campuses, political hegemony and undemocratic practices have disturbed the atmosphere of the campuses today. Therefore, the West Bengal chapter of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has launched a statewide campaign, “Students voice for Peaceful Campus” from December 1st  till 15th. The West Bengal chapter of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) expressed solidarity with the family of the 2nd year student of Derozio Memorial College, who was raped and murdered. SIO held a demonstration followed by a rally today at College Street. Mr. Masiur Rahaman, State President demanded due investigation and capital punishment to the rapists. He added that exemplary punishment should be given to the rapists. He also expressed grave concerns on the increasing rate of rapes across the country. SIO Kolkata observed World Environment Day with an awareness program at Shibpur Botanical garden. SIO’s cadre demonstrated against the negligence of the authorities at the Botanical garden. Students from various colleges and schools of Kolkata participated in the protest. Holding placards, the students made it clear that they would not remain silent anymore on the ongoing climate crisis across the globe.
