Protest demanding educational reforms in Tamilnadu

SIO Tamil Nadu organized a protest on 21st of September against the state government to stop the ongoing commercialization and privatization of education. The protesters demanded the state government to implement the ‘Right to Education Act’ without damaging the prospects of the backward and poor people in getting quality education. SIO Tamil Nadu criticized the state govt. for going forward with 20% reservation in the private schools for poor students, which hypothetically may result in decreased number of govt.schools in future. Continuing with the tradition of conducting Summer Islamic Course, SIO Chennai organized it this year too for students aged 10-17 at 4 different locations across the city. Vaniambadi: SIO vaniambadi Unit conducted a Summer Islamic Residential Camp exclusively for the XI and XII std students at ‘Yelagiri’ Hill station from April 5 to 7. SIO Tiruppur district protested against the ever-increasing ‘Liquor Sale’ by the Tamil Nadu Government throughout the state. SIO Tamil Nadu Zonal President Br.Abuthahir listed out the perils of Liquor and also highlighted how it has damaged the society, students in particular. Chennai: Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Tamil Nadu Zone was invited to discuss and present a paper on ‘ ‘Islamic Response to HIV & AIDS’ at the Southern Regional Meeting on ‘Inter-faith Scriptural Response to HIV and AIDS’. It was jointly organised by The Dept. of Ecumenical Relations and Ecological Concerns CSI, Ecumenical Solidarity for HIVs and AIDS and Shanti Ashram,Coimbatore at the CSI Center,Chennai last Saturday. The meeting was to bring together various religious organisations especially students and youth to tackle issues revolving around the disease like Sin, Stigma and Discrimination, Gender Issue, Care and Support, Sexuality, etc.
