Will Recommend 10 times increment in MANF in 12th Five Year Plan: UGC Chairman

New Delhi: “I will recommend a 10 times increment in Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) in the 12th Five Year Plan”, said Prof. Ved Prakash, Chairman, University Grants Commission while speaking to the delegation of Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) in his office.

The SIO delegation led by P.M. Salih, Secretary General and accompanied by Shaikh Shoaib, National Secretary presented a memorandum to the Chairman demanding the increment in MANF. SIO further demanded the rectification of the distribution process of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) which is currently received by the candidates in piece-meal system. SIO also demanded the Chairman to sanction JRF to the Engineering and Technology Research Scholars.

The Chairman assured the delegation that the JRF will henceforth be received in time as the UGC is tying-up with a bank to smoothen the process. With regard to the JRF for technical students he said the process has already begun.

In the meanwhile a delegation of SIO under the leadership of Sharique Ansar, National Secretary, SIO met the Director, Scholarship Section, Ministry of Minority Affairs and submitted a memorandum to increase number of scholarship in pre-matric, post-matric and merit cum means schemes. SIO also demanded change in the application form to reduce the hassle that the students face in applying for the scholarship. For the 12th Five Year Plan, SIO has demanded that the grants for the scholarship should be doubled to be able to cater to larger population. SIO also demanded an effective monitoring mechanism at the state level in all the states. The delegation included Prof. M.A. Baseer, Nanded, Maharashtra and Irshad Khan, Nagpur.
