The West Bengal chapter of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) held a rally followed by a demonstration against the violent agitation at Harimohon Ghosh College and the subsequent murder of a police officer named Tapas Chowdhury. Calling it unfortunate, Md. Mosiur Rahaman, State President of SIO said that campus atmosphere often becomes violent during student union elections. He urged for constructive student politics and said that the recommendations of the Lyndogh commission, if implemented, could stop campus violence to a great extent.
“The root cause of such phenomena is the way of life promulgated by atheistic and epicureanistic worldview”, he added. Shadab Masum, member of the Central Advisory Council of SIO was also present on the occasion. He said that what campus is today is the state of tomorrow. In this context, he appealed to the state government to take due initiatives to bring democratic atmosphere back to campuses.
