Vasco [05.07.14]: Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) – Vasco Unit celebrated ‘Vanamahotsav’ on 5^th July’14 at Keshav Smruthi HSS .The Chief Guest was the Sarpanch of Chicalim Panchayat Ms.Veronica D’Souza along with her husband and present panch member Mr.Anacleto D’Souza. Shahid Makandar, Campus Secretary, SIO Vasco Unit delivered the inaugural address and introduced SIO to the students. Mr. Asif Hussain, Secretary-Public Relation, Jamaaat-e-Islami Hind, Goa spoke on the topic ‘Role of Students in protecting our environment’. He motivated students to be keen observers of Nature and also avoid littering around our scenic mountains, lands and beaches. He also spoke about the growing environmental hazards in our society and dwelled upon the importance of a good personality in the society and its influence on the larger population. Mr.Anacleto D’Souza appreciated SIO’S initiative and encouraged students to plant a sampling at their residence and in their locality. He also said that he and his team will conduct workshops on conserving trees and have a Vermicomposting Unit in panchayat. Sarpanch Ms. Veronica D’Souza launched Vanamahotsav by planting samplings of Aragae Palm and Neem in the school premises. It was then followed by a Quiz Competition on Environment for the students and it was conducted by As’ad Shah, Unit Secretary, Vasco Unit. The Convenor of this program was Kasif Shaikh, Cultural Secretary, Vasco Unit.
