Kolkata chapter of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) organized a rally in support of Supreme Court’s verdict on Homosexuality. Students from various colleges of Kolkata gathered at Calcutta University raising slogans against homosexuality.
While addressing the rally, SIO Kolkata President Shadab Masum said that SIO welcomes the judgment of Supreme Court wherein it has declared homosexuality illegal and a punishable offence. The apex court on Wednesday quashed the Delhi High Court verdict of 2009 which had decriminalized homosexuality. He told Gayism and lesbianism are against basic humanitarian values and against the social fabric of a civilized society. He further stated that the organization demands the Central Government to stick to article 377. SIO Asst PR Sec Sujauddin Ahmed and SIO Kolkata Sec Javed Khan were also present on the occasion.
