Press Release SIO India

Press Release SIO IndiaNew Delhi: The Students Islamic Organisation of India voices concern over the alleged custodial death of the SFI leader, Sudipta Gupta, on 2 April in Kolkata and demands a fare and impartial inquiry into the whole affair. The police should have read the psychology of mob before resorting to lathi-charge as there are other ways to control the mob. Suppressing and killing in the name of maintaining law and order cannot be allowed at all. SIO demands from the Government of West Bengal to restore the Students Union soon which is supposed to be the nursery of the national politics.

Meanwhile, the SIO urges the protestors to fight for the cause of students in a peaceful and productive manner. It is an irony that scores of students are not involved into social activities and culture of campus democracy is breathing its last. This is because instead of activism on serious issues, often feelings and sentiments are played upon by some organizations, which is not a healthy trend. We, the students, are to redefine the campus activism and present such a model of activism in the campuses which would be balanced, productive and exemplary.  SIO support to opinion that democratic environment be prevalent in all campuses of the nation, in which students express their opinion with freedom. We want to see the students playing pivotal role in nation building.
