The West Bengal zone of the Students Islamic Organisation of India hosted an age-worthy seminar on “Education in
India: Neo-liberal Scenario” at Dr. Triguna Sen Auditorium of Jadavpur University, Kolkata on 25th of Aug, 2013. After the welcome speech by Md Mosiur Rahaman, State President of SIO, renowned dignitaries delivered speeches on the above topic. Prof. Limsir Ali from Calicut University, Prof. Muktipada Sinha from Jadavpur University, Shahnawaz Ali Raihan – renowned journalist and Dr. Masihur Rahaman – Editor of Weekly Meezan were the speakers. The session was presided by Md Nooruddin, State President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
Prof. Sinha enlightened the audience about the neo-liberal scenario of Education. He said that right to education is essential in the matter of fundamental rights. Mr. Raihan said that government must not deny its obligation of providing basic education. With neo-liberal approach of Education, government is handing over education to capitalists and they have made education a trade-off. In this way, education is gradually moving away from its objectives. Dr. Rahaman said that neo-colonial approach of education is indeed a form of neo-colonialization. According to him, the purpose of this trend is basically to enslave Indians. At the end, Md Nooruddin, in his presidential speech stressed that moral values and belief in here-after must be upheld for social upliftment and prevention of ill effects of globalization.
