SIO Maharashtra South Zone is working for different minority scholarship schemes for last 5 years. (e.g. Merit cum Means, Post Metric, Pre metric and other private schemes) and also the zone has come up with a Scholarship Cell which looks after all matters related to scholarship issues and for that a blog www.scholarshipcell.blogspot.com has been developed to help the students. Very Important issue was taken up recently. Presenting some excerpt from the same.
For the year 2011 state Govt. declared 48,000 + Minority post metric Scholarships (worth 40 crores).State govt made it compulsory to fill the form online to speed up the process of issuing the scholarships.
Some other hitches which troubled the students a lot were the gross negligence, inefficiency, lack of co-ordination among different education directorates in State and irresponsibility, non-cooperation by Junior/Degree/PG College Principals, short period between issuing GR and last date of filling forms, Less/limited or no publicity of schemes. On the top of everything making online scheme compulsory while Centre never made it compulsory, had floundered this good scheme on the ground. After scrutinizing the applications, Govt. had given the amount of Rs 31.6cr on 30th March 2012 to the state govt. to transfer it to the selected candidate. Due to lack of co-ordination and irresponsible behavior of Director of Higher Education Maharashtra, the amount was kept in the bank and not given to the needy students on time.
Scholarship cell members of SIO Maharashtra South submitted a memorandum to Mr. Sunil (Assistant Director of secondary & Higher education, Maharashtra) on 10september 2012. The delegation demanded the government officials to extend the last date for applying of pre-matric scholarship. After discussion government accepted the SIO’s demand and now the last date for applying has been extended to 30th of September 2012 from 17th September.
On the same date, the delegation also submitted a memorandum to Mr. Kadu (Assistant Director of Higher education). The delegation of SIO raises the issue of poor implementation of post metric scholarship scheme, website problem, difficulties regarding form filling & specially the problem of not sanctioning the amount of scholarship to the students who were selected for scholarships in previous years. The delegation informed the officials that due to miscommunication and irresponsible behavior of DHE, the students who applied last year, are still in confusion whether to apply as fresher or as a renewal because the govt didn’t declare the sanctioned list on time. “If the govt is unable to release the sanctioned list on before 15th September, then SIO will go for state wise agitation “Said Md. Ali (Campus Secretary, SIO Maharashtra South). After discussion government accepted the SIO’s demand and now today the sanctioned list of post metric scholarship has been declared. 48,504 students from 35 districts of Maharashtra are the beneficiaries. You can refer the list on www.dhepune.gov.in
“We are thankful to the govt for disclosing the sanctioned list and now we suggest/demand the govt to extend the last date of application for Post metric scholarship from 30th September to 31st October 2012. Also the govt should adopt fair and transparent system in scholarship schemes otherwise the students will get disappointed from such schemes. We also want to convey our message to the minority student community that this scholarship schemes are only for you and it is your right to fill it on time and spread it as much you can”. Said Nadeem Rasoul (coordinator, Scholarship Cell, SIO Maharashtra South)
