Panjim, Goa: Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Goa Zone successfully organised Students Festival ’12, a part of the National mega event of Cultural competitions with the theme ‘Exploring Edutainment – Coloring Creativity’, on 14th & 15th September 2012 at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.
Mr. Dayanand Mandrekar, Honourable Minister for Art & Culture was the Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony. He congratulated SIO Goa Zone on organizing a successful festival and giving the students a platform to showcase their talents. Mr. Tomazinho Cardozo, Former President, Tiatr Academy of Goa and Mr. Abdul Wahid Khan, President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Goa were the Guest at the Closing Ceremony. Mr. KK Suhail, Former President, SIO of India and PRO, Human Welfare Foundation, New Delhi presided over the Ceremony. Mr. Suhail while explaining the theme of the festival opined that education and entertainment bring together the best talents and help students explore their opinion. The State President of SIO, Goa Zone Mr. Anwar Khan welcomed the guests and the gathering to the Ceremony while Mr. Akbar Khan, State Coordinator of the Festival delivered the Vote of thanks.
The 2 days Festival witnessed 23 institutes including Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges from across Goa competing in 7 On-stage events. The On-stage events were Drama, Mime, Extempore Elocution, Mimicry, Poetry Recitation, Mono Act and Street Play. The Off-stage events painting, cartoon making and collage making competitions were also held at the venue. A rush was witnessed to submit entries for the other Off-stage events with more than 250 entries being submitted in Digital Poster Making, Drama Script Writing, Photography, Poetry Writing, Story Writing, Film Script Writing, Short Film Making and Documentary Making. The participants were very enthusiastic and put their maximum efforts to entertain the audience. The winners of all the competitions will represent Goa at the National Festival to be held on 18th & 19th October 2012 in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Earlier the festival commenced on 14th September 2012 at 10.00 am with the Inaugural Ceremony with Mr. Vishnu Wagh, Honourable MLA and Chairman, Kala Academy as the Chief Guest. Mr. Wagh recollecting his college days impressed upon organizing such events in which students get an exposure to the social reality and building healthy competitive spirit. Mr. Abdul Wahid Khan, State Patron, SIO Goa Zone was the Guest of Honor and Mr. Suhail KK, Former President, SIO of India and PRO, Human Welfare Foundation, New Delhi presided over the function. The State President of SIO, Goa Zone Mr. Anwar Khan, State Secretary, Mr. Siraj Bengre and Mr. Akbar Khan, State Coordinator of the Festival were also present.
