Amid Election Fervor, Students gather to discuss Educational reforms

When the entire nation is gearing up for the Union elections, a selected group of highly motivated students gathered for educational workshop at Mumbai Kurla city. The aim of the workshop was to enlighten the students on the national agenda of education in India, the policies related to educational system, reforms required and how students can strive to eradicate the vices which have penetrated the education sector. Various issues were discussed at length, such as privatization, commercialization, uniform fee structure, RTE, and various flag ship programs.

Chief Guest of the workshop, Limseer Ali, a research scholar at Delhi University gave an introduction to the history of Indian educational system, the current policies and major shifts throughout the post-independence era. He stressed on the need for indigenous globalization of educational system. Representatives of various students’ organizations were also invited to express their opinion on “Required Educational Reforms in India and role of student organizations”. Kavita, Joint secretary of SFI Mumbai, Abhishek, youth representative from AAP Mumbai and Yadunath Deshpande, Organizing secretary of ABVP Mumbai and Salman, member of SIO presented their views on the same. Limseer Ali concluded the topic saying that these vibrant organizations should come together on a common platform and work for the betterment of nation.

Later, Students Manifesto for elections was presented to the representatives of these student organizations by SIO.

The participants were highly motivated and vowed to work in the field of education sincerely as part of their social commitment. The entire workshop was co-ordinated by SIO Mumbai Divisional’s Student Center at Mumbai.
