“A Step for Social Change” – Students Convention at Lucknow

A Student Convention was organized by Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) U.P. Central on the theme “A step for social change” on 16th October, 2011 at Ravindralaya, Charbagh, Lucknow . The chief guest, PM Salih, Secretary General, SIO addressing on “Students Shaping Present, Envisioning Future” said that SIO is a revolutionary students movement. It has its own mission, policy, vision and concept about education, knowledge and student life. Its mission is to prepare students and youth for the reconstruction of society in the light of divine guidance. He said that we have to work in the field of education and research and also check where our educational policy is leading us. SIO is doing its best in this context.

The guest of honour, Prof. Ramesh Dixit (Lucknow University) spoke on “Student Politics & Educational Policy of India.” He said student politics is the school and laboratory of democracy which has given us many revolutionary leaders but now efforts are going to shut down this laboratory. We should work for the restoration of Student Politics in campuses.

The Editor of Newzfirst, Musab Iqbal addressed on “Media- The Effective Weapon of Era”. He said that media plays an essential role in changing the mentality of society but the sad thing is that it has become the puppet of political parties and capitalist powers. He said it is the age of social media. The revolution we have witnessed in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya was brought down by social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. Today, the mainstream media does not care about social issues. Now, we have to become media in ourselves and fight for our rights. It is our responsibility to work for the positive change in media.

Speaking on the convention’s theme, ”A step for social change,” S. Ameenul Hasan (Ex. President, SIO) said that our society is getting westernized day by day where individualism is prevailing and man is running after lustful desires and anarchic power. SIO wishes to reconstruct society in the manner where these problems do not appear and humanity, love and peace prevail.

Speaking on “Students and Social Responsibility” Masihuzzama Ansari (Zonal President, SIO U.P. Central) said that the students should raise their voice against the social evils, immorality and injustice present in the society. SIO wishes such college campuses where students take part in social reform activities along with their education.

Islam presents a society where every human being is equal and treated fairly irrespective of his caste, creed, race and religion.

A manifesto was launched during the program in which students took pledge to struggle for the restoration of Student union in all campuses, to fight against all kinds of corruption, to fight for social justice and to uphold the moral values in educational campuses.
